Vehicle Assessment
- Year: 2022 - 2023
- Timeframe: 18 months
- Solution: Issue Flagging
- Impact: Owner Awareness
- Gain: Drop in Maintenance Expenses
INTRODUCTION
Amid stricter safety and emissions regulations enforced by RURA, many mobility stakeholders sought a reliable and scalable solution to ensure compliance and reduce maintenance costs. The need for a more transparent, efficient, and data-driven approach to vehicle assessment became increasingly urgent.
SURVEY / RESEARCH
The initiative was informed by a broader study conducted by DX Mobility through direct interviews with individuals and businesses across Rwanda. The research aimed to uncover everyday mobility challenges and inefficiencies in vehicle maintenance and inspection practices.
RESULTS & FINDINGS
- 96% of respondents believed they were overpaying for vehicle repairs due to a lack of accurate diagnostics and limited understanding of their vehicles.
- 92% reported being misled into purchasing unnecessary spare parts, with some mechanics retaining either the used or new parts without the owner's knowledge.
- 75% of participants experienced delays when renewing vehicle inspection documents at RNP, often because they arrived without prior checks or repairs.
- The findings highlighted a widespread gap in vehicle knowledge and a lack of accessible tools for proactive maintenance.
SOLUTION BY DX MOBILITY
DX Mobility introduced a digital vehicle assessment system that combined mobile-based inspections with AI-powered damage detection. Standardized checks were conducted at designated depots, with instant cloud-based reporting to streamline workflows. This solution enabled users to identify mechanical issues early, reduce inspection errors, and improve regulatory compliance.
CONTRIBUTION
- Users gained deeper insights into their vehicles’ conditions, empowering informed decision-making.
- Repair costs were significantly reduced through early detection and avoidance of unnecessary part replacements.
- Fair trade practices were reinforced in the pre-owned vehicle market, as both buyers and sellers could validate vehicle condition with confidence.
- Trust in car rental services increased, with businesses adopting pre- and post-lease inspections to ensure transparency and protect asset value.
- Individual travelers made safer and more informed decisions by checking vehicle health before long-distance journeys, reducing roadside breakdowns and travel disruptions.
GPS Tracking
- Year: 2023
- Timeframe: 6 months
- Solution: Real-Time Location Monitoring
- Impact: Asset Security
- Gain: Drop in Fuel Consumption
INTRODUCTION
As Rwanda’s transport and logistics sector expanded, fleet operators faced growing challenges in route planning, fuel management, and asset protection. With increasing pressure to meet delivery timelines and reduce operational costs, DX Mobility identified GPS tracking as a transformative solution for smarter fleet oversight and accountability.
RESEARCH
DX Mobility conducted a nationwide survey targeting logistics firms, taxi cooperatives, and intercity transport providers.
RESULTS & FINDINGS
- 88% of operators lacked real-time visibility into vehicle movements, leading to inefficient routing and fuel waste.
- 73% reported fuel misuse or theft, often due to unmonitored driver behavior and unauthorized detours.
- 61% experienced delays in responding to breakdowns or emergencies, citing poor coordination and lack of location data.
- Manual trip logs were common, resulting in billing disputes and inaccurate mileage records.
SOLUTION BY DX MOBILITY
A GPS tracking system was deployed across selected fleets, featuring mobile dashboards, geofencing alerts, and automated trip logging. Fleet managers could monitor vehicle locations in real time, receive instant alerts for route deviations, and analyze trip data for performance optimization.
CONTRIBUTION
- Fuel consumption dropped significantly due to optimized routing and reduced idle time.
- Theft and unauthorized vehicle use declined with geofencing and live alerts.
- Emergency response times improved through precise location tracking.
- Billing accuracy increased via automated mileage and trip reports.
- Fleet managers gained full operational visibility, enabling data-driven decisions and improved driver accountability.
